Hitman Reborn! is so good. It amazes me that I can stand watching the still going 100+ episodes.

i have a bunch of favorites that are already shared with a lot of people here so i'll name some great anime that i've seen that need to be mentioned: Minami-ke - similar to lucky star and azumanga daioh. VERY entertaining and lighthearted. the art style is very clean and the animation is great. Noein - very stylish, experimental sci-fi anime where kids are involved with time travel AND parallel dimensions. worth checking out just to see these elements come together. good balance of story, drama and action. Some parts were absolutely heart-wrenching. Denno Coil - takes place in a near future where the internet is literally with you anywhere you go, with special high-tech glasses that allows any space to be a interactive interface. very interesting ideas come in such as new viruses, tech, and unknown threats that come out with this new technology. the animation is very fluid and remind me of studio ghibli. Xam'd - very polished, the production value in this anime is amazing. a very solid, great series soon to be a classic. awesome cast of characters and interesting plot.

Despite my avatar, i gotta say my favorite anime is still Neon Genesis Evangelion. The whole thing was so deep and psychologically interesting that i loved the entire series. Also, i liked the mindfuck at the ending just because it left the finish entirely open to interpretation, so anyone can get some kind of message from the anime.
tl;dr i love Neon Genesis Evangelion

^ I find that interesting, because the mindfuck ending made me discount the entire series and never want to watch it again. I hold grudges like that. I should quit it. :3
1. Elfen Lied 2. Tenchi Muyo/Universe 3. Wolf's Rain 4. Vampire Hunter D (original and Bloodlust) -- have to give these credit because they were my first anime loves. <3 5. Death Note
I also really want to put "anything that Makoto Shinkai has ever touched" up there. xD But I won't.

I don't have too much anime experience under my belt, but I did love Wolf's Rain and Trigun.

Alright, I put some thought into composing this top ten list: 10) Elfen Lied: This seems to be a huge favorite here and for a good reason, this anime does very well at handling character relationships and making each character stand out. The story is also very well crafted. 9) Naruto: A series which picked up very well and went on strong for a long time. I have stopped watching the anime for this regularly opting instead to read the manga, I do however check back every now and then. The series has a variety of interesting characters and a pretty interesting ongoing story. It also isn't afraid of killing off major characters to advance the story and evoke emotion. The anime does suffer from a ton of boring and stupid fillers. 8) Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Seems pretty goofy at first but goes on to be a very deep and involving story with awesome battles and great characters. This series made me cry a couple of times during the course of the story. It also ties up nicely and feels very complete leaving pretty much no loose ends. 7) Blood+: This anime starts of a little slow but has a really great story once you get into it and really does do a good job of handling character bonding. This all leads to a pretty awesome conclusion which much like Gurren Lagann ties up the story very well. The series is also not afraid to kill off characters which can be a big deal since you end up caring about a lot of them. 6) Gintama: This series is full of comedy with a number of action arcs thrown in to advance the story. It does a pretty good job of pacing them, the first season is pretty much purely comedy however. The characters are all hilarious and goofy but also have a serious and emotional side to them which does show from time to time. Basically this series handles everything it does very well, when it aims for comedy it's hilarious and when it switches to combat it ends up with some of the best fights you can expect to see in an anime. The setting is also very original, taking place in a super advanced Edo period which became futuristic after an alien invasion. 5) Cowboy Bebop: A very popular series and deservedly so, it does pretty much everything well. It has great voice acting and an original story. 4) Death Note: Awesome story, great characters and one intense ride all the way to the end. You hardly ever really know where the story will go because one of the main characters always has something up their sleeves. This keeps the series interesting and unpredictable for the most part. 3) One Piece: This series really has so many great characters and such an awesome premise but suffers from a number of horrible filler arcs. I am currently reading the manga for this but I still check in on the anime and I still enjoy it a lot. This series also has a huge problem with not knowing whether or not it wants to kill off a character. It'll go through the entire scene and have the character essentially die only to pop right back up alive and well at the end of the arc. This would be somewhat understandable for the main characters but occurs all too often with side characters. 2) Tower of Druaga: The first episode of this series is pretty much bogus but it picks up from the second episode and goes on to be awesome. The series manages various aspects of comedy, action, drama and romance very well, a couple of episodes feel a little sluggish in the middle but it all picks up with a brilliant cliffhanger ending to the first season. The second season picks up even better and after the truth behind the story is revealed the series moves forward into awesomeness. The series is also available for streaming legally as GONZO releases it on YouTube on the same day as it is released in Japan. The series is currently ongoing and in it's second season. Watch it here: www.youtube.com/user/TTODruagaAE1) Full Metal Panic!: This anime is based on a series of light novels. It has really interesting characters and an awesome story. The fact that the series is incomplete really saddens me as I wanted to see it end properly rather than stop abruptly after the third season. With the light novel series recently having been completed I hope that this series will be picked up again and continue where it left off. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I may add some honorable mentions later on but honestly, I've watched a whole lot of anime and enjoyed most of what I've seen so it would be pretty expansive. There are a couple of series that have been mentioned here that I intend to check out. Likewise I recommend looking into the ones that I have listed, Tower of Druaga would be an obvious choice since it's right there so there's no digging on your part. Also, darknezz be sure to look into Clannad and Kanon since you liked Air.

5: Ah! My Goddess! - Yeah, I know, ::throws man-card into the trash::. but I really do like this show. Not the most complex plot ever, but sometimes you don't need that. The characters are great, and the show strikes the right balance between laughs and "d'awwww" moments where most romantic comedies fail miserably at.
4: Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu - Yeah, I liked the first series, too, but Fumoffu is just way too much fun. Any show that actually makes me laugh at the obligatory bath-house episode instead of just making me roll my eyes and skip over it deserves to be on the list. Also: fuzzy mecha. How can you go wrong?
3: Fruits Basket - Yeah, I know...again. ::Throws a pile of man-cards into the trash:: But this show does a great job of taking you through the entire emotional scale...right from laugh out loud funny to misty eyed melancholy, with an ensamble of characters that (well...many with one exception) never get old or on your nerves. Its just a show that gives me the warm-fuzzies.
2: Hellsing (both TV and Ultimate) - Ah...Hellsing...my guilty pleasure. Normally I get turned off by gorely violence and extremely vulgar language...but Hellsing keeps me coming back like a junkie who wants to see more people get horribly and stylishly ripped to shreds by Alucard. One of my favorite manga's too.
1: Cowboy Bebop - Really...what can be said about this show that hasn't already been said? Great characters, great music, great show...I bow to might of this show.
