What do you prefer to see happen to a game? Have it go into the past or just continue the story?
I prefer prequels since sequels usually end up getting screwed up in story-line or game play or something and prequels give me more background.

If you think about it, both can go wrong. I mean gameplay will probably change for the good or bad, or stay the same regardless if it's a prequel or sequel.
With a prequel, they can still screw up the storyline by making it totally irrelevant, or creating so plot hole of some sort.
With a sequel, well they can just make a crappy extension to a story that more likely than not, deserved to be left alone.
Stories should only be continued if it was already planned to be some sort of trilogy. If not, just take the gameplay that made that game so great, make good changes if need be, and create another story that satisfies. Theres way too many sequels these days. People just cant let things go, and developers and producers are willing to milk the cow for all its worth. And thats why sequels/prequels usually suck, the people just want a quick buck.
But hey, thats not always the case. MGS.... minus MGS2

I usually like sequels because with prequels you feel like you're going backwards in features and such if you were to play then in chronological order. But really I wouldn't mind a prequel if it's made after the original storyline is finished so that only when you're done moving ahead you can look back.

I prefer sequels but there is nothing wrong with prequels.

Oddly enough, for me, that depends on the main character of the game.
If he/she is charismatic, witty, experienced, and has depth (all without them coming off as a complete jackass or tool) then I would personally love both to see how they started off in a prequel, as well as how their lives go on in a sequel.
However, I HATE in prequels when the character is made to be naive, weak, less resolute, as I feel I'm not even playing as the same person.
In the end, I guess it all depends on how well the game is made and how deeply the character develops in the first place.
