Basically the question is, where are we going now? With EA trying to buy out Take Two and maybe making a system. Activision won't stop making call of duties, Blizzard making so much money from WOW how could they care about SC2. Gamestop Bastardizing video games and what we stand for. people thinking video games are ruining children and society as we know it. People blaming killing sprees on GTA and Ninja Gaiden... Hot coffee mods and Manhunt. Sports games horded by one company alone.
Where do you see this coming too? Is there going to be another crash Like Atari.
What is going to happen?

I don't think the market can totally disintegrate the way it did in the Atari days, the times aren't the same anymore.
But there is going to be a downturn. Honestly, this is the pro and con of the free market system. It breeds innovation, which allows the type of growth we've seen over the past 20 or so years, but then inevitably must have a downswing when the major players get too big for their own good. Then the cycle starts all over again.
And yea, there's the occasional political bogeyman that pops up (usually those lovely Democrat hacks like Clinton who want to run every aspect of your life), but the industry has survived those before and will continue to do so.
It's basically the best we're going to get. If the industry stayed the same all the time, we wouldn't be anywhere near the kind of advances made with gaming mediums like the 360 and PS3.

First off, you have to remember that this is a business and without the business aspect of this industry... the industry would not exist. So saying that Gamestop is bastardizing the industry is a little harsh. There has to be a retailer for the industry to exist. Personally, I think the sale of used games is kind of unethical but I understand why it exists. Whether you like it or not, this is a business.
2nd- While the mergers are becoming more and more common, I think it would be better to look at these as an oppurtunity for these smaller companies to have a positive effect on these huge doushe bags (E.A. and Activision, etc.) Games will continue to be good and I dont think that these big companies will send the quality of games on a downward spiral.
Only time will tell though.

Oh there is nothing wrong with gamestop in theory, its only that gamestop is the only video game based store that you can get all your new games from. when they have the power to sell games as they see fit, they have to power to change em.

one thing i've noticed about A LOT of recent games is that they're focusing more on graphics and less on story/gameplay. It just burns me to see a game with great potential crash and burn because everyone in the industry is focused on the wow factor and not the quality and replay value of a game anymore.

I'm definitely going to have to agree with Shruikan on that one. Bells and whistles in a game are cool, but it's a real shame to see a lot of people categorizing "a good game" as one that's all graphics and no game play. I hope that companies can still find a thriving market for quality games and not be shut out by stupid EA Madden's every year (no offense to anyone that is a Madden fan! ^_^).

Btw...Gamestop as a company is terrible. How do they make up for money deficits from their merger? Easy! Just cut your employees pay!
I motion that #811 withdraws from the corporation.

That's when you go looking for a new job instead of complaining about your wage.

i think once we are able to play games that have OMFG realistic graphics the game industry will fall but in story telling wise it my continue for a while depends on how we play game in the future
