what do you think the big deciding factor that separates a game from being a rent or buy?
but personal opinion is depends on story, and whether the gameplay is linear or not. if the game is just one straight shot through the entire story, now why would i want to start all over again after i complete it? unless of course the story really is that great. Plus, another big thing is whether or the online multiplayer is fun.
what are your thoughts?

what should matter really is how much fun you have in the game. if i rent a game thats only about 5-6 hours long but is incredibly fun, then i will buy it cause it is so much fun. if i get a shooter that is supposed to be an amazing game but if i don't have fun playing it, then i weren't buy it.
simple as that.

Short game length coupled with no replay value will usually be a rent unless it has great online multiplayer. Also, if a game seems to have biased/lame reviews, a rent is a safe way to judge it yourself.
But I haven't rented a game in years, nor the money to buy more.

I look a lot into replay value, if I can play it through a bunch of times and still enjoy it, I'd but it. If I only get one or two playthroughs, I'd rent it.

Most games are buys if I'm interested in them at all.. I don't trust reviews for anything more than factual pros/cons of the game, so I like to see at least 10 minutes of gameplay and judge how long I think it would take before the gameplay gets old (which I'm usually VERY accurate with, at least for my own experience) If I get 20+ hours of solid fun, then I'll definitely consider buying it, but if the story isn't great, it would have to be more like 50+ hours of fun... the multiplayer side of games is harder for me to judge without playing... for me it's all about unlocks taking forever, so you always have a sort of goal... I guess I'm just taking a risk with the multiplayer every time I buy a game, because nobody focuses on telling you how the unlocks are set up If a game seems like a 'renter' to me, chance's are I'll just borrow it from a friend eventually so I don't feel the need to spend any money on it XD

If I have *enough* fun playing it I buy it. How much is enough? I think that if I have interest in playing the game, and if I didn't want to stop, I should definitely get it. If I played it just when I was bored, and I was kind of passive about playing it, I don't. But I hardly ever rent games anyway. I usually ask my brother what games he has heard of that are good, and I buy them, and I'm typically satisfied.

For me, it's all about re-playability and mutiplayer aspects that determines if I'm going to buy a game or not. I recently rented Red Factions: Guerrilla and it is definitely a buy because I had uber fun playing and the multiplayer is solid.

To be truthful I have a plethora of factors that determine whether a game is a buy or rent for me, it mostly being my level of enjoyment with the game, repeatability, and developer/ratings.
To elaborate on the last; for instance, I'd be more likely to buy a game like Valkyria rather than something like Call of Duty. Though I love both games, I would much rather give money to a developer that needs it and buy an equally enjoyable game (Yes I love Valkyria that much...though I don't own a PS3 and played it at a friend's house.)
But to cut a long story short, I'm kind of cheap...so I'll only buy a game if it deems itself worthy to dish out the 60 bucks for.

For me, I actually only rent during very rare occasions. If I like how the game looks/plays (according to trailers), then I probably will end up buying the game. On the other hand, I would only rent a game if I am really doubting the quality or length of the game.

Rent before buy. I mostly do that, cause if i see the game is good and is worth buying for myself i would. But if the game is bad, i won't lose any money. Cause why would i spend $50 on a game that i don't like? I mean look at Vensito for example. He rented Valkriya Chronicles, to see if it was good. Turns out he loves it and wants to get the game.
