I usually wouldn't bother with talking about a shoujo series but there is something so entertaining about this one. While there is romance, the show is more focused on the development of the characters, mostly the main character.
Alright, Skip Beat is one of my favorite series. The anime lasted about 20-something episodes long but the manga is still going strong.
Synopsis
Kyouko would make a perfect waifu. She moved with her childhood friend Sho, who's seiyuu is the same as Light from Death Note, to the city to support his singing career.
She cooks, she cleans, she has several part-time jobs in order to support their apartment, she knows what he likes and what he dislikes; who could ask for more in a partner? But they aren't really in a relationship and he couldn't appreciate her less, as she eavesdrops upon him talking to his female boss talking smack about her. Instead of crying, she laughs and loses it. Her gentle personality is crushed and she becomes a new, vengeful girl who vows to make Sho pay. He claims that she'd have to beat him as his own game: by going into the show industry! But she is a nobody with no acting or singing skills.
She becomes a character full of amusing contradictions and meets some interesting characters, such as Ren, an actor Sho sees as a rival, and "Moko," a cold girl who slowly starts to warm up to her.
Interesting notes:
I find it interesting that Ren and Kyouko have the same voice actors as Kamina and Yoko from Gurren Lagann. This series is also being made into drama, though I have yet to see it.
