If you can tolerate older games I suggest you try out TES2: Daggerfall and TES3: Morrowind. Both of them are very deep, intricate games whose content was way ahead of their time.
I'm sure Bethesda hasn't given up on the Elder Scrolls, however it takes them a very long time to come up with a new game as everytime a new TES is released they try to push the boundaries and come up with something new and impressive.
Back when Morrowind came out in the Xbox, people's minds were blown at the sheer expanse of the world, as well as the detail placed into it. Which (at the time) was very impressive, in addition. The books, storytelling, and depth of the Elder Scrolls Universe far surpasses that of a game like Fable.
Then when Oblivion was released on the Xbox, they gave us physics, an even more varied and expansive world, trees that move!, and some beautiful detail and graphical design that had never before been seen.
Even to this day I think we can say the graphics in Oblivion are pretty damn good. However, due to Bethesda wanting to appeal to a more mainstream audience, the leveling and skill system was simplified and it was missing that charm and depth that it had in Morrowind. The story was indeed also lacking, yet the Guild plotlines and sheer beauty of the world are enough to keep anyone playing.

Morrowind is tolerable if you load it up with graphics mods. The gameplay is fine for the most part (some sprucing up by way of crafting mods, quests and improved dialogue mods is in order though) For example: Old Almalexia New Almalexia Old Grasslands New Grasslands I'm hoping they announce an a TES V well into production at next years E3, or I feel we're not going to see another TES for a long time. Something I read awhile ago said there won't be another TES in the foreseeable future.

Can't wait for TES:V if there is one. Like other people said in this thread, try Morrowind. Awesome game, if you can get past the combat at first.

I wish there would be a dark brotherhood game, where the entire main plot/quest is you doing things for the dark brotherhood.

They haven't announced the game yet I don't believe, but they are working on TES V for sure.

I'm pretty certain they're working on a new Elder Scrolls game.

They're more than likely working on TES V. Also the thread title reads as "The The Elder Scrolls Series"
