I second World War games. It is one of, if not the most over used trend. The graphics might get better over the years and the gameplay might change too, but the weapons, main plot, and style are all the same. It is annoying!

1. Multiplayer. It just feels like everyone feels like a game NEEDS multiplayer. I was annoyed with Uncharted 2 and Bioshock 2 having a multiplayer. It's not a bad thing if they are good, but honestly, I'm not going to play their multiplayer because the single player is enough of a sell for me. Ever since Halo having a well received multiplayer, every developer feels like their game needs one in order to sell and that isn't true! A good game will sell whether it has multiplayer or not.
2. The silent protagonist. I'm just tired of this and the idiotic belieft that we will become more attached to that character and feel more in their situation of the game if they have no personality. It's the one thing I hate in Shin Megami Tensei games and I'm even sick of it in Zelda games.

Motion Control.
Lame. Ass. Gimmick. Sorry, but I'm fine with a controller in my hand, sitting my ass on a sofa, thank you very much.

Guns. Shallow proto-morality with obvious good and evil outcomes.

Escort missions. It's just sadistic of the video game developers to make us go through them.

"Survival horror games" of today. Just kill the genre or somethign please. People consider games like Dead Space (although a very good game from what I played, i.e. the demo) survival horror and that's just not it. Too big of an inventory, weapons are a little too powerful, unless you don't upgrade your armor, you take too many hits.
I just have an issue with modern day "survival horror" the atmosphere, feel of being all alone, having barely anything able to carry, little weapons, tank controls...
I love it, and I will be the first to admit that the genre should not have games being made in this genre anymore, I don't want to see another one of those new terrible TPS RE games or Silent Hill degenerating. Survival horror games, real ones, don't sell well and cause for fewer releases from developers, and I'd rather have my old games than new crapier TPS games called survival horror.

I actually thought about this. If they expect you to do flips in the air, inside your living room, family room, bedroom or wherever you play your games. They're crazy, this will lead to injury and I'm sure some dumb kid will try to pull some stunt, injure themselves and probably want to sue someone because they got hurt trying to pull off some move to impress their friends in their own home that they shouldn't have done. I think someone is asking for trouble.

Realism.
I'm all for making games looking more graphically advanced, but this realism thing is getting out of control. The time it takes for a character to stand up after a fall is getting annoying, as well as the amount of damage you take from a few bullets in some fps games. It makes the game look better but does it make it any more fun? Not really.

Sonic games
Lack of (Good) sales on console based marketplaces (Steam is best marketplace IMO, but I just think that because of all the sweet deals.)
FPS (For a while, anyway.) Too many. When was the last good platformer made? (Disk based)
Spin-offs.
Appealing to the audience. (I have reason to believe that this caused Shadow the Hedgehog.) "Statistics show that fans of Shadow also like spies, orders from the president, excessive interaction with humans and aliens, guns, cars with rockets mounted on them, lasers, swords, laser swords, and cussing like a trucker."
Good and evil games. I realize you are allowing me to go be a dick to the city. Thank you very much. I will kill everything and take my evil points happily. However, I see a small problem. In the end, despite all my evil deeds, murders, and rapes (That cannot be proven...) I STILL KILL THE BAD GUY. I am a villain. The bad guy is a villain. Why is it that I am still killing the villain.
In a good and evil game, if I am good, I want to kill the bad guy, and if I am evil, I want to join forces with the bad guy. That is what good and evil in games is in a perfect world.
In reality, no matter how big a dick you are, the main villain still dies. That bothers me.

Actually, if you're playing as a bad day, I could think of a reason why you would still want to kill the main villain.
Think about it, you're evil. Would you really want to join forces with some guy, or would you rather take him out so that you could be the main villain? That way your rain of terror would be all the more sweeter for yourself, seeing as how it's not being overplayed by some punk.
But I too don't think that every game with a "moral meter" should end like this. There should be different objectives for evil and good. Especially the very last one you accomplish to finish the game's major story line.
