Matchmaking:Not being able to choose your server in a console game can lead to horrible games, joining laggy servers or the same server over and over{COD4}is annoying.
Pointless/not entertaining side missions:I'd rather have a short great game than have a longer game with boring sidequests that bring down the expierence{Assassins Creed}.
Item management/Micro Managing:The main reason I dislike a survival horror game.item mangement can add to the survival aspect, but nowadays developers should think of other ways to scare or challenge gamers.

dlc being used for a quick buck. im ok with dlc being used for releasing content for a game after its been released for a while but when developers announce like day 1 dlc or dlc that will come out in a week or 2 that you have to pay for, it just makes me mad that they couldn't get that in the game before release? i mean, at least let us have it for free if it could have been on the disk itself before release.
quick time events as they are now. i hate quick time events because they make games more annoying then fun or challenging. in resident evil 4, the qte were fun and made sense for he game. however, you've got games where theres a qte in there when your character could easily step to the side or something. also hate it when failing a quick time event means instant death. im ok if its a penalty thing like you lose health or you get like a crappier path to follow but don't make it so the player has to repeat the whole scene or event just to get by 1 button press. instead, have qte's become something like an extra in games. not have it replace gameplay itself.
my little rant.

A trend that needs to stop?
Every other game that is released is of an existing franchise....dear god. I mean, look I love Mass Effect and can't wait till Mass Effect 2....but games like COD 2,3, and 5....World War 2 games....stop making so many. 4 being the exception with it's plot and modern warfare. But seriously...it's like every other game we get is a sequel to a franchise we already know about. This isn't completely a bad thing, yet only certain games are meant to have sequels...a game like Fable for example. Had little purpose for a sequel, the first game was great, no need to make an updated version with some new aspects and shiny graphics. (Though..I did rent the game..>.>)
However one trend that truly has to stop...is that every other game is also.. a shooter. Devs need to stop kissing ass with the casual crowd and release something that isn't a shooter. This generation has so much potential for RPG depth and graphical design, physics and platforming, High Definition graphics for unforgettable scares in horror games, and downright crazy game engines for strategy games....why oh why, is every other half-decent game a shooter?
A note: I was half asleep writing this. So don't chew me out if it sounds more like ranting.

Two words: Movie. Games.
We need them to stop. There are a few diamond in the rough games like X-Men Origins (PS3/360) that are actually good But most of them blow so much that it makes my head spin.

Fanboy/Console Wars
It can't be stopped but its a problem we all have been dealing with.

ok, let's start here:
1. fanboyism! that's a huge problem, these days. 360 fans say the ps3 sucks, ps3 fans say the 360 sucks and overall wii is a godlike console. stop that sh#t!
2. world war shooters, or any war shooters. i mean, at first the medal of honor games were really fun, but now every new shooter has to take place in world war 2, or cold war, or any other war. i don't want that anymore, that scenario is absolutly lame.
3. too much dlc with costs. i mean, you have to pay money to buy new guns for far cry 2 or new cars in race simulators... why i have to pay for that? where are the unlockable items, after i played through the game...?
4. storylines & characterdevelopments. today, graphics seem to be the most important thing in the game. so, the stories and the characters losing their importance. we have too much storylines involving aliens attacking mankind, and most of the protagonists are just vin diesel stereotypes. ok, i don't want emo-esque characters, but someone i can relate to.
5. casual gaming... just casual gaming...
6. sequels. how many developers were brave enough to start a new franchise, instead of programming one sequel after another. there are surly some new games, that have the potential to be a new franchise, like bayonetta or borderlands. but, as much as i love the mgs- series, and as much i'm excited about "rising", i want hideo kojima to start a new franchise.
7. creativity & originallity. the technology today is so highly evolved, that programers have whole levels of gameplay designe. but noone is brave enough, to start inventive games, like ico, shadow of the colossus or katamari.

One thing that bugs me are people who hate a game because it's overrated.
Just because a game that is considered to be overrated does not necessarily mean it's a bad game. For instance Halo and Final Fantasy VII, some people despise these games cause of it. Some of it may have to do with the fanboys, but why let that stop you from liking a game? It's like people just jump the bandwagon and hate the game because everyone else does. I just think it's stupid.

This in a sense...If developers would actually take time on completing these games instead of just using them for a quick buck to milk the movie they could be good...I had high hopes for the ironman game

So many games have QTE events now and it's getting boring now, sure the cutscenes look good but nearly every action game uses it now.

Light and dark world/path. I know that they want to let you play as a good guy or bad guy, but I feel that they need a suitable middle ground, or several middle grounds. It's a tired concept that almost seems like it's being forced in some games.
