Introduction:
Hello, I'm BlitzKey and this is my first videogame review so I'm new at this. I've been a fan of the Final Fantasy series (FFVIII as my favorite), so picking this game up is a must-get for me.
I'll be reviewing on the Japanese Retail version of Dissidia: Final Fantasy so here I go!
What's Dissidia?
Square Enix decided to throw in a Spin-Off game to celebrate Final Fantasy Series 20th Aniversary called Dissidia: Final Fantasy. The game reunites the main heroes and villains of the series from FF1 - FF12 into a 3-D Fighting / Action game with the RPG level up and equip elements.
Story:
I'm not going to spoil the game, but I'll just give a brief summary of the story. The main story is about conflict between Cosmos and Chaos (The Good vs The Evil).
Each Hero from the FF Series (1 to 10) take part with their own storyline that reflect's the background story from the original game they star in as well as fighting their respective villian. Heroes will also come across other heros/villains from the other FF installments and fight them before fighting their main enemy.
Ex. Squall meets Cloud or Jecht meets Sephiroth.
Gameplay:
Dissidia has a unique style of gameplay. The game is action/fighting based mixed with RPG elements. Characters fight in 3D battlefields where certain scenery can get destroyed or harm you.
You can bulk up your character with equipments such as weapons, armor, accessories, and summons. There is a shop where you can buy / sell / trade equipments.
You can also customize your character's attacks and abilities.
Character's have the ability to move around freely, lock on to enemies, jump / dash / dodge, as well as perform certain actions such as running up walls, grinding on rails or charging towards the enemy. Blocking and Countering is also an ability.
The character has a health/attack + defense system called HP and Brave. Where HP serves as your health to survive battles and Brave serves as your attack power and defense. The game ends if you or the enemy runs out of HP.
There 2 different types of attacks called HP attack and Brave attack.
HP attacks are your character's special moves (Ex. Cloud's Omnislash level 5) that damage's the enemy's HP. The amount damage given is decided by your Brave count. Thats where Brave attacks come in.
Brave attacks are normal attacks that decreases enemy's Brave count and increases yours. Having the higher Brave count results in higher HP attack damage.
Summoning monsters are used to trigger special status such as, stealing Brave points, infinite Brave defense for a short time, etc.
Finally theres the EX mode. Which serves as your Limit Break in the game as well as small health regeneration. Each character has a EX bar that fills up by attacking, defending, picking up powerups. Once your EX bar fills up, you can perform your character's EX move. Your character's EX moves are a reference to each character's Limit Break from their respective game. Ex. Cloud: Pressing O repeatingly sucessfully perform his Limit Break.
Music:
The music is the same as always in the Final Fantasy series. There are new songs made for Dissidia as well as old songs from the series such your favorite character's theme songs.
Ex. Sephiroth's: One Winged Angel
Features:
There's more to it than just gameplay only, there are unlockables such as alternate costumes (Ex. Cloud's Advent Children outfit), more music, extra voices for your character, level caps, icons for your profile, etc.
There is an ingame calendar where certain days will give you bonuses such as exp, ap, gil & etc.
There's an encyclopedia, which you can learn about the background stories of each game / character / summons.
At the end of every battle, you have to option to save a replay of the fight for you to watch and edit, you can also convert it into .MP4 format which you can watch the replay on your PSP XMB or upload into YouTube!
Multiplayer:
You can play against a friend who also has the game via Ad-Hoc connection. You have your own profile that you can edit such as a quote, main character, icon, and a ghost. You have a ghost, which is your main character played by an A.I. with settings you can change such as fighting style. If you added your friend's profile, you can spar against his ghost offline, which is useful for practicing.

My Score:
I give this game a 9 out of 10 overall which is near perfect for a PSP game. I enjoyed this game alot, it has tons of replayablity that'll keep you busy. I finished this game with almost 100% complete.
Why you should BUY this game:
- I really mean BUY, not pirate. This is a really good game that is worth the money and deserve to get credit.
- If you are a fan of FF series, this is a must get.
- Square Enix plans to make a sequel IF the game sells well in the US/EU (the game sold well in Japan, so we should do the same)
- Its fun!
