The MLG is a small, but heated debate on whether it should be taken seriously or not. All the *MLG* people I've played with are either playing with an energy drink in their ass and raging or are extremely cocky in their abilities and cannot see how not being competitive can be fun.
I feel bad for these people's mental health too, when I watched MLG on T.V, they were yelling, screaming, and hitting their screens with every bad thing that happened, you don't want to know what happens when a team looses. That's a LOT of stress.
Really, video games for me, have always been played for fun and a sense of accomplishment. So I'm kind of biased here on whether it should be looked at as a sport or as a bunch of yelling children.

mlg just isn't matured yet. it could be something but the hosts have no clue on how to do it right. ive seen a few compitions where all they do is zoom in on the players and not once look at the screen.
a few years back on g4 there was a show called Arena that put teams against each other that played games for a prize. that was really intertaining for they had a free camera in there tracking each player so they were catching all the good stuff when it happened. they need to impliment that stuff with actual gameplay with the occasional shot of the players reaction.

They are obviously doing it wrong somewhere. I've had enough kids yelling at me that they've allegedly, at one point their life, touched a controller that happened to be used for an MLG competition. I forgot what competition I saw on TV (MLG or WCG) where during a CS match, the scoreboard and player playing the game (not with the screen, pointed at them playing the game) were shown more than the actual gameplay. Remember, points are given for completing the objective which only happens AFTER the round ends. And really, team "coaches" who just watch the game and yell, too? If a gamer like myself can't take that seriously, there's a problem. However, there are plenty of competitions that work that aren't filled with the caffeine crazed kids. I loved doing clan matches in CS and watching pro teams compete in like CPL and ESWC. There were no yelling competitions and the focus was the gameplay. HLTV was built to spectate games like those. It's not all seriousness though. For me, it more like fun matches between teams. Just look at Pubmasters. Will video games ever be in the Olympics? Doubt it. Can they be considered a sport? In the sense of competition, then yes. Let's just stick with e-sports.

MLG isn't really "Professional Competition" as they say it is. Gaming is a sport but MLG doesn't show good sportsmanship. Its full of cocky + snobby + cheap inmature kids, especially in GameBattles.
I remember a friend and I were playing GB CoD4 Doubles Ladder. We had a good win/lose ratio till we fought against a top ranked team. As soon as they entered the party room, they started talking shit already, calling us "scrubs" and some other nerd insults. We were tied on Hardcore Search & Destroy 3 - 3, next victory wins all. Right when we were about to win (the team did not have time left to defuse the bomb), they pulled their connection plug and froze the game so the game would be tied. They disputed the match and gave fault screenshots of the game which convinced the admins of GB to give them a win instead of us.
Just because of that, my friend and I were like "F*CK GB" and we disbanded the team. This is the common problem when it comes to MLG/Gamebattles. MLG =/= Pro

In my experience, people with MLG in their names tend to suck really bad. Luckily, I never have to hear what they say because I am usually in a party with friends on XBL.
But yeah, the whole "PrO GaM3r" culture is really immature and inflates cancerous egos.

MLG =/= Pro I was playing with a so called "MLG" player on Halo 3 a few weeks ago, unluckily for him though, I do not take the game seriously at all since I hate the game, so instead of being a good team mate, I was griefing the game by running the flag out of bounds in snowbound, laughing at anyone who tried to run out there and get it. He starts yelling at me, calling me a "fooking noob" (I think he was french) and glitched my connection to kick me out of the game. The game wasn't even ranked and was acting like it was life or death and you needed a military discipline O.o, why can't these people just relax and have fun?

why can't these people just relax and have fun? Either they don't know how to have fun or they've forgotten what it means and what it's like to have fun.

MLG and Pro gaming in general is what is killing the game industry in my opinon, as more game developing companies make games focused on multiplayer, the story and overall gameplay becomes simplified and dumb, I dont know, Games like Bioshock and Fallout 3 and some others should stay single player. Im a gamer who wants a good game, mulitplayer is fun but when people take it to seriously and let it take over their lives I cry inside for them

you know bak in the day MLG used to be one of the big contenders for professional gaming. Well, they didnt have to rely on ONE FUCKING GAME!!! *sigh*
okay, heres how it goes...bak in the day when gaming was starting to get big, these two guys made a tourney. Though it was bad, it was the first MLG tourney. They had Halo, Madden, a lot of other console games. Then they even teamed up with EVO at one point. That should have been a clear message saying "weve got EVO, lets use the game they play in their circuit"
go to WSVG and you will see Zyos, a pretty beastly dude at Halo becoming undefeated 2 years in a row in H:CE 1v1. Pretty impressive, and also winning the H1 50k nationals, teaming with Shizz, Alex, and Darkman (Darkman was the first person EVER to get a signed contract with MLG, before anyone even thought a contract could exist to play games for a "sport")
New age comes along and now H2 is the greatest game of all time, being played all over the world, by all sorts of people. Though WSVG did have it on the circuit, it wasnt the most famous (quake aside with WoW were top contenders). Soon MLG took the game and blew the living shit out of it. The game was fun for me, it really was, H1 will always be set in my mind as the greatest, H2 is a second, and H3 isnt even on the list. Thats where MLG went horribly wrong, more on that later.....BACK to 05-06 season, and you will see a bunch of teams getting recognized. Str8 Rippin, 3D (formerly known as StK) Trademark Gamers, Utah Noobs. This is when the H1 pros died off, Darkman BigSauce, all of them. The ones that were left were Zyos, Walshy, Walka, T2, the Ogres, Saiyan, and Fonzi. They would become the top contenders in the circuit. Team 3D (Ogres, Saiyan, Walshy) became undefeated in their first year. This is all in H2. No other games mattered to MLG (because they are jerks and dont know competitive games if they were shoved up their asses).
Lets go to present time now, 2008. When H3 is released and GOW 2 came along with RSV1 and 2. The games that display no competitiveness whatsofuckin ever. Though they had Shadowrun on there (which is competitive to the fullest, you have to think about it) that was put on later in the circuit, then taken off because the fanbase wasnt big enough.
Go to 2009. RIGHT NOW!!! we have H3, GOW 2 and RSV2 being played at the event. Lets name competitive games they blatently missed and decided to go for money instead of skill: UT3, Q4, SR, MvC2, SF3rd strike, SF4, CS, all of these were kicked to the curb for MLG's sake. For god's sake, they even put WoW on the circuit, a game i never even thought was competitive.
Now we have people wanting to compete over a BROKEN GAME (talkin about H3 here). Bullet Registration, Level design, THE GAMEPLAY, all are flawed in this game.
Fun Fact: Bungie WAS going to use the H:CE engine to run H2, but scrapped it at the last minute and made a complete new engine, same thing happened to H3, were gonna use H2 engine, scrapped it and made a whole new engine. They made 3 engines for 3 games that are suppose to look and feel the same. Yet they dont, now bungie is making some ODST shit i dont even give a flying fuck about, and im pretty sure MLG is gonna pick it up somehow
so NOW MLG is talking to EA about new games to be put on the circuit, so basically were talkin sports games. "no, lets not put any competitiveness in this age of gaming anymore, lets fuck it all up and just make people give us money to play
Dont get me wrong, i used to like MLG, the community went down the shitter once H3 came out. The "real" pros just left, because lets face it, nowone wants to play a broken game for a living. The "new" pros are god awful, i mean cocky up the ass, and it never stops. They took off Melee from the circuit and didnt even bother with Brawl. So chances are they will never put UT3 or Quake or any PC game on the circuit, because its all about money these days folks, the moolah, the big green, the dough, the hippity hoo haw!!! and it will never change, unless Bungie decides to put H:CE with live capabilities or something, cuz MLG relies on Halo, and dont care about any other games. Which makes me sick
sorry about the rant, just got done working out and listening to All That Remains, a little hyped up here haha

honestly, id love to see how some of those "MLG" players deal with wii controls. i have a feeling many of them are snooby hardcore gamers that will never touch a wii if they can help it. id love to see like just normal people who play the games all the time end up beating the crapout of a good chunk of those mlg people.

To be honest, i think MLG players are losers. I mean seriously, they take the game seriously, brag about winning every match, etc. When they lose however, they'd just whine, complain, and even threaten you. I'm cool and all with people who play the game seriously, but just for fun. But playing seriously, and treat this game like your life? Screw that. I'd rather play with gamers who don't play well, mature, and are a lot of fun, rather than to play with people who are immature and are killtacular.
4pp for example, when they play online, they don't really care about the game as really serious.
They play for fun, and maybe you think they are serious when they say obscenities when they die or lose, but they still have fun, and are still mature to accept the fact.

The MLG events should be renamed into "HaloBowl".The only game you could win a decent amount of money in at MLG is Halo 3 at this moment.
