I wanted to start a thread about music so I decided to make a different kind of top 5. Post your top 5 favorite Music Albums of all-time (as of the moment of posting) here, and maybe we can get some discussions about them going! I'll do mine with explanations on why, but there is no need for you to explain why.
P.S. This list was hard for me to nail the spots down.
#5. Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Night Moves (1976)
This album did something for me and older music. It basically got me into widening my range of music by pushing back the time-range I had. Not to mention it has my favorite song by Bob Seger on it. In my mind, a shining example of classic Rock & Roll.
#4. Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero (2007)
The first time I ever listened to this album all the way through, I immediately knew just why I respect and admire Trent Reznor as a musician. Everything about this album, in my mind, is a masterpiece; the percussion, all the electronically produced noises, the subtlety of some pieces, the lyrics that fit with the theme of the album. If I started listening to this right now I would still be amazed by it.
#3. Regina Spektor - Soviet Kitsch (2004)
This is truly an amazing album. It's got the quirkiness of Regina Spektor, the voice of Regina Spektor, and the piano provided by Regina Spektor. Every song on this album I adore, from the opener "Ode To Divorce," to the closer "Somedays." The thing I admire most about this album is it's quirkiness. A lot of people may be turned of by the sometimes odd lyrics, but that's what makes Regina Spektor special.
#2. The Cardigans - Long Gone Before Daylight (2003)
If you were a Cardigans fan in 2003 before this album came out, you probably weren't expecting this. After a 5 year hiatus after their album "Gran Turismo," they came back with this beautiful example of what a 5 piece band with a talented female singer can do. The chemistry of the band really shows itself here too, from the perfect grooves of Magnus on bass, to Peter Svensson's solid guitar, and of course, Nina's smooth and VERY easy on the ears voice. The Cardigans matured for this album, and it produced one that should be recognized by wider audiences as one of the greatest ever.
#1. Soundgarden - Superunknown (1994)
I can hardly overstate my liking of Chris Cornell, and this album is the pinnacle of his and Soundgarden's career, in my opinion. The drums provided by Matt Cameron are excellent. The bass provided by Ben Shephard is probably the best I've heard (part wise, not skill), and is way more than a deep rhythm guitar. The guitar by Kim Thayil is excellent and should give him more credit as a guitarist than he has, in my opinion. But the thing that really seals the deal here are Cornell's lyrics and vocals. Lyrics that go beyond literal telling of feelings and stories, and great vocal to back them really make this my favorite album of all time. My favorite song would have to be the closer, "Like Suicide." Featuring some chillingly beautiful lyrics about something that really happened to Chris Cornell (will expand about that if egged to do so) and Thayil's best solo in his Soundgarden career, again in my opinion, that song always gives me goosebumps.
Those that read the entire list and the explanations as to why, thanks for wasting your life on me.
