Has a game ever done something that was interesting when you first heard about it, but ended up becoming something bad?

It seems that SEGA might plan to release another installment to the Valkryia Chronicles series. The game sold better in Japan than the US. Do you think SEGA would plan to sell on the Western market? or its going to end up like Yakuza 3 and we'll all get pissed?

Since the western release of Yakuza 3 seems dim, will you (brad) import the game? I know it will be hard to enjoy since you cant understand the dialogue.
But I played the demo and LOVED it, I have to have it, so i'm importing it.

Total copy and paste from the last thread :3

I saw a show on the BBC (british channel) a few weeks ago which argued the point that there is basically no immersive storytelling in gaming compared to books. The example they gave was caring about saving a princess in a game in contrast to reading it at the end of a book.
I tend to agree with this at the most part but I think it's the fault of the game and not all games in general. I came close to tears in parts of Metal Gear Solid 4; I really do think it hits the nail on the head in terms of sucking you into it's story and characters.
Anyway, my question is, "are there any games that suck you right into the story, forcing you to care for it's characters and plot?"

While many game franchises have very deep backstories and plotlines, they are often left aside for only curious and explorative players to seek out and discover. For example, one could argue that games like Resident Evil and Halo have very weak and shallow stories, but those that seek out every nugget of information the developers hide, can argue back that they have very deep stories. Is this a good way to present the story of games, making the bulk of information available but not mandatory, or does the information have to be force fed like the cutscenes in Metal Gear Solid to prove that the game has a story?
In short: Can a game be considered to have a good story even if most of it isn't presented predominantly throughout the game?

Hey Rena here....(Bakarena from chat)
How do you like the new DSi? Do you think that DSi is going to destroy the PSP market entirely? Even with the new installment of the PSP looking like a flip phone...could two webcams kill a good thing?
