I just finished playing Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, a game set in Vietnam that is published by Eidos...and...wow.
I dont really know where to start, so Ill just start with what I know. THIS GAME IS UTTER SHIT, No really, its that bad. The controls are slow and sluggish when aiming. The AI is terribly scripted and the dialogue is very bland. The story is very full of cliches and the guns are more effective if you threw them at the enemy.
The story starts off with you walking into a building, in which your brother is held, in which he promptly escapes, suddenly throwing you into the action with no weapons. You then set out on a quest to find your brother, and that is what you are doing over 90% of the game is find him.
Every mission starts by taking away any guns you had previously and starting you with what they want you to have. I cant count the number of times I had full ammo and 2 guns I liked, only to start the next mission and be left with my knife...yes, only my knife. This then leads you into either finding a gun later on, or picking one up off someone who tries to kill you within a minute of starting the mission. The difficulty of the game is very unforgiving and unbalanced, as I would be on a turret, suppost to defend a hill with my AI buddies, but as soon as I get there, the AI runs down the hill to meet the enemy head on, leaving me by myself, against over 20 enemys who all shoot me dead since I am on the turret.
The game looks like it is actually an original xbox game, or a PS2 game, the lighting and everything is horrible, its too dark to even really see which in this games case is a good thing so you wont be able to see where they fucked up as badly. There are no real spectacular moments, but there are some pretty decent scary parts...but thats all the game has going for it is the occasional scare.
I would avoid this game at all costs, dont even rent it unless you feel like you need to prove me wrong and think it would actually be a good game. I am actually going to start a petition stating that Eidos should never make another FPS again, JUST BECAUSE OF THIS GAME. If I didnt rent this game, as soon as I beat it I would take it out on my patio and beat it with a sledge hammer.
Graphics 1/10
Story 2/10
Gameplay 2/10
If you spent $60 on this game on launch....may God have mercy on your soul.
