So this week I rented the game "Wanted:Weapons of Fate" and so far from what I see in the community is people saying it is a horrible movie cash in and isnt that high quality, so what I am going to do is fill out a review for it and try to keep it as spoiler free as possible.
The Story-
Basicly the story starts off somewhere towards the end of the movie I think, I never saw the movie so I dont know, the only crappy thing is you start off with a normal handgun and you lack the ability to curve bullets, the game starts off with you in an apartment that is being raided by police...for reasons not yet known to you they take something from a picture of someone in the apartment...and then your quest begins!
The Gameplay-
For the most part the first level plays like your normal third person, cover based, shooter. Run from cover to cover, latching on, shooting at guys until they are dead. When you finally learn the ability to curve bullets (the end of the first chapter) you feel very badass and ready to take on the world. And then you do your 5th bullet curve cinematic and it loses its charm, sure its still fun but you never have that "Oh Crap that was Sweet" moment again until...after your second boss fight in which you earn another adrenaline point (the stuff you use to curve your bullets) this allows you to not only do a better cover swap, but it also allows you to have access to a move called "Shrapnel Storm" basicly instead of curving one bullet at once, you control about 6-7 bullets that explode on impact. With the new ability your Oh Crap factor comes back and you enjoy the game again....until that dies out too, leaving the games major gimmick in the dust. There are also some sequences which are a pain in the hardest difficulty level, in which you are being shot at but time slows to a degree in which you can shoot back and shoot bullets out of the air, if you miss before the timer counts down, you die and have to start again, though restarting it isnt that bad because the whole sequence isnt more than a minute long.
The enemys- The enemys are your normal fanfare, you have your normal grunts that die in one good curved bullet, as well as a grenade throwing variant that dies in one hit as well. Followed by the elite, people with SMGs or Shotguns who can take 2 well placed curved bullets. There are also what the game calls Nightmares...assassins who...are kinda like the kamikazi from Serious Sam, no matter where they are they run at you screaming like a lunatic, and once they grab you it takes a short (although badass ending) QTE to beat...that means this game isnt for Mordiford but thats another thing. Then after all that is the boss fights, which use your various abilitys (bullet curving, quick moving, blah blah)
Game Modes- Once you beat the game more than once, you unlock Time Attack Mode, basicly letting you see how fast you rank against the developers in the game. (I ranked 6th) There are also modes you unlock with codes and the like, Like Headshot and Close Combat mode. Headshot mode is basicly the same as normal campaign except your challenged to get as many headshots as possible, and you have a minimum to get before you can move on in the level. Close combat is similar to this but instead of headshots you have to do some badass melee kills. The Difficulty levels pan out to be just a modifier of how much damage the enemys do, they still take just as many bullets to take down, but they do more damage to you and there are still just as many people.
Collectables!!!- Okay...this section is not really needed but how could I not put it in, its like 50% of the game. Everywhere you go you are unlocking more and more concept art, staff pictures, posters, artwork, team quotes, and all the stuff that you wouldnt want otherwise. You do however unlock LOTS of new characters for other playthroughs, like in total I unlocked about 11 characters to play with, but I hardly touched them.
Final Thought- Okay this game isnt bad, but it surely isnt worth a $60 price tag, I would wait for a drop in price, or hell, just rent it. it is pretty fun and would be great if you had some time to kill (har har pun) The Learning curve is very small so its easy to pick up (lol another pun). The way this game does pan out however is to hint at a sequal coming to either Wanted, or to the game, either of which will prolly end up either being overrated or under hyped.
