Okay, Starting off CoD:WaW is a WW2 shooter, and that might throw some of you off, considering the last Call of Duty game had modern weapons and you all dreaded going back but from my experience with this game its just as fulfilling as Call of Duty 4 in my Opinion. This game has several different aspects that I am going to touch on so I am going to seperate them as best as I can.
1: Campaign
The Campaign is pretty dramatic I think but has some Cheesy sequences like the sniping mission, and the plane turret sequence, these are only available in singleplayer but they are kinda disappointing as far as those kind of missions go. This game does lack the Badassery in the campaign that CoD4 had but its not lost because of the lack of trying, its more lost on the fact that they either make it too hard to feel badass or too easy that you have no challenge at all. On the harder difficultys the Enemys also seem to throw homing grenades...all at once no less, and all have excessive accuracy, so you get 12 grenades at your feet at one time and as soon as you go to run, BAM you are hit with a headshot. There are approximately 14 or so missions in the campaign, and each one feels very different from the other even though they are all closely tied. I personally love the WW2 weaponry they have, the Arsenal is Vast and pretty fun to play with and experiment around.
2: Co-op
The Coop Campaign is the same as the Solo Campaign except for the fact that 2 missions are taken out (the Sniping mission and the Turret mission) and for good reason as they arent condusive to fighting with friends. The Coop Has 2 types, Competative where everyone is scored seperately, and Normal where they all get scored together. The game is pretty fun this way, but it still plays like you are just playing Solo, but this time your Backup is actually smart instead of lacking. There arent that many actual coop moments, you would most likely be better off sticking with Solo mode unless you had friends you really wanted to play with.
3: Nazi Zombies
The Nazi Zombies mode is fun with friends but slightly annoying, you only have one map, and it basicly pans out the same way no matter how you play, spend the first few waves in the first room, then run into the hell room with the random box ( a box that gives you a random weapon, you can either get awesomeness or something really crappy, its all a roll of the dice). The Zombies in Zombies mode are fairly slow at first and take only one headshot to kill, but then later on they start sprinting at you and come in large hordes, taking more than one headshot to kill, thus making the game very lopsided as once you are past level 10 its very hard to survive if you dont have a good weapon. This is the only mode where I have actually seen some Coop come to the surface and all it actually pans out to is stuff like covering your friend while he raids the random box, or more than one person covering a door.
4: Multiplayer
This is where the game shines brightest. The Multiplayer has a similar Experience/Leveling system as CoD4, you level up for kills and experience and you get new guns, kills with those guns gets you attatchments, and so on. This time Prestige is actually worth it because not only do you get the new shiney Icon, but you also get a new custom weapon slot. The attatchments on the guns now for Multiplayer are pretty believable for the Era, and all have functions, but are now more risk and reward, like putting a scope on your rifles increases range and accuracy , or putting a bayonette on it lets you stab further yes but you stab slower. The guns on the multiplayer are very fun to use if you use them correctly but Alot of complaints arise from people playing this game when coming from CoD4, and thats mostly because all the weapons have smaller magazines, so they are less condusive to the spray and pray tactics that alot of people on CoD4 used with the P90 and the M4. I love the smaller magazines as it requires people to use more tact in aiming instead of just pot shotting from the hip. The Maps in the multiplayer however tend to sometimes be favoring one side or the other, like some sides of the map are easier to cover and defend than other sides. Most however are very even and easy to play on once you get the hang of it.
5: Map Pack
The new maps are pretty fun in my opinion, they are pretty evenly balanced and have lots of hiding spots in them. Knee Deep is one of the new ones, its set in a Japanese Village with lots of rice pattys and grassy areas as well as a long creekbed. Nightfire is the German town that is on fire, lots of blown out buildings and some close combat with a few sniper alleys. and Station a cutout of the Subway tunnel in the campaign with a few tweeks, mostly close range but a long sniping perch. The best part however is the new Zombie map, with the addition of having to fight to get back together with your team, and the perk machines it makes this the better of the zombies maps, its alot easier to defend in this one as there are more rooms that are easier to hold than in the other Map. The Random box is different this time, as you also have a chance of getting a teddybear from the box, this causes a little girl to laugh and the random box to become destroyed and reappear somewhere else in the map, so no more camping the random box.
6: Final thoughts
If you like WW2, get this game. If you like Spray and Pray and Spawntubing from CoD4, you might as well skip this title then because its not suited for your type of playing. This game is pretty fun with friends and if you take the time to master a few of the guns it can be an enjoyable experience, but dont expect it to be like CoD4 where you can grab just any gun and do well, it takes some effort in this game to actually make your shots count.
