Sigh. or ? So, till now I was quite sure of getting a DS but I just got back from the store and I was browsing through all their stuff and came along the PSP area. I simplay can't decide. Some of the PSP games really caught my interest: Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Metal Gear Solid, SOCOM, all sorts of JumpNRun games the fighting games like Guility Gear (it even comes in a bundle) and Tekken. I've actually always been a Nintendo person. Played the SNES, N64 and Gameboy. Then I owe a XBox with some games and a PS2 but only with the eye-toy. So one can say I never really got in touch with Sony's games. Another plus for the PSP are the multimedia options, music, video and good graphics too ! Though the battery life-time is limited. To break it down I owe a iPod so I don't really have the need for a music player nor video player the iPod nano does quite well with that I just formated my fav's DVD and loaded them on my iPod. The screen is well enough for tram traveling etc. W-Lan ? Browsing ? Uhhh, I heard it's quite complicated with both platforms plus I have a Laptop for that. I use that if I want to surf on the web. The real good thing about the DS is that it has all that sorts of fun games + better battery life due lesser graphics. And even a few cool RPG titles ! As in the FF series. I'm just kind of afraid that the battles might be boring on the DS. From what I've seen on the PSP Crisis Core requires quite a lot of interaction. So what do you recommend ? I really want some more RPG titles something with a story but I don't want to get bored from lame "pokemon-alike" fights. Overwhelm me with more games, since I prefer hearing from other people about them before I actually buy something (of course I have my own taste but I'm freshmeat regarding console games). Oh I almost forgot, check out that USB(ear)-stick: Thanks in advance, raumzeit

I bought a DS maybe three weeks ago and am loving the purchase. I also had a tough time deciding, but I chose a DS because, imo, the PSP really didnt have anything different from what I played on the ps2.
I am also a big rpg fan I also like the Ds because of its line up of rpg's.

i just rid of my ds a few weeks ago, purely because i never played it any more, im really missing the psp i got rid of last year.
The ds has good games, but there few and far between , those good, must own ones, always stay with jacked up prices. whereas i went into a gamestation with £20 and left with 15 UMD's once, 5 games and 10 movies. A lot of people bad mouth umd movies but i liked them for what they were, they were cheap alternatives to dvd for travel and just generally good for power cuts, and its pretty cool to sit in the dark with a horror movie playing up close. my psp had lss games than my ds but what there was was constantly played, patapon, harvest moon, castlevania, final fantasy, disgea. the list goes on and on. My ds by the end only played elite beat agents and pokemon and very sparingly too i might add.
Overall im surprising myself by giving my vote to the psp, its much more customizable than the ds, which is essentially a glorified gameboy in its overall simplicity. It has much better rpg's and its online gameplay is much more of an online game experience than the "blindfolded and thrown in a big crowded room" equivalent of nintendo.
and theres a crisis core themed psp coming out in the uk soon so im tempted to get on again.

Online gameplay ? I thought you also need a hotspot for that too plus other people with a PSP around you. PSP has good games that is true but I think I will go for a DS since the PSP seems to me like a compromise to a real console and a portable gaming device. I just want a pure portable gaming devices for tram travelling or just having fun with some friends and get a blast about those DS fun games. I don't need movies or music. But still I'm un-sure.

I've been able to recently get a ds and I havn't had it at all but I've used a ds and a psp and I always liked the ds a lot more for several reasons. Whenever I was with my friend who had a psp he always got mad at it for doing things he didn't want to lol and my other friend who has a ds and a psp got really frustrated at my house because I was trying to put a movie on his psp and it took like 4 hours to figure out how to do it because he had a different software then he thought and then he had to download and install and everything. To my the psp seems a little much like too many things. like too much of a good thing is bad. sure the graphics are good but I would love to be able to play a game longer with less graphics. the DS Ive always had an interest in b/c of the touch control the WiFi and the interesting games. When I first heard about the ds I thought it was stupid b/c of the two screens but now i have a totally different view on it since it makes more sense to have 2 screens to have more options and easier gameplay. the touch control also makes it easier to do things like in animal crossing instead of scrolling through the options u just tap tap tap and ur done. sometimes thought I'd rather use the d-pad as in starfox command I'm not sure if you can or not change the controls to the d-pad but if u can that'd help a lot b/c i hate like controlling a big thing with touch especially since im trying to shoot something down within a time limit. but overall I'd rather pick the DS. Sure the psp has built in browser, but its so slow it might as well not even be there. and I'm really sad they discontinued the ds browser game b/c I'd love to pick that up and give it a try. You can make your own decision though, its all about your opinions and your likes and dislikes: if you LIKE: easy gameplay, more play time for less graphics, touch control, and interesting games pick the ds if you LIKE: great graphics, maybe not as good gameplay, music and movies on the system, and other st00f pick the psp but I have a zune so the music and movie thing doesn't work for me and I'd rather not spend 50 dollars on a 4gig card for movies and other things i don't need. also the ds has demo's you can download which I think the psp has too. so pick whatever u like and hope you made a good decision.

Thanks your post made it a bit easier for me to decide. I'm getting the DS now because I also found out that with a R4 DS I can watch movies and listen to music easily as on the PSP. Just gotta decide if it's the bundle version in black or white or if I'm gonna get one of the other colours.

no problem I too had a hard time deciding but since i have a zune and don't need to put music and stuff on it and i don't want to spend a lot of money the ds made it easier than a psp

actually if u get an r4 u can run emulations on the ds which include ds games. sure the psp has great graphics and can play music and pics and video. but if u have an mp3 player already wats the point?

Honestly if you are looking for good RPGs on a portable be prepared to be disappointed. There are really not many quality RPGs on either

Okay, I just got my R4 DS. I'm so gonna load my DVD's on my DS. All I have to do is to decide what colour I want. Since I live in Germany the crimson and cobalt ones are a bit more expensive around $10. So it's either plain black or crimson or cobalt. Oh and DS has good RPG games. You can't compare a DS with a contemporary console like the XBOX 360 etc. (It even has a bear in it )
