An oldie-but-goldie anime with Psycho-analysis, Giant Mecha, a moral at the end, and an alternate perspective on Christianity to boot!
The series, which arguably established the 26 episode format and a few character archetypes (blue-haired, red-eyed, stone-cold personality female, for example) focuses on the exploits and psychological progression of a teenage Eva (mecha) pilot named Shinji. if you want to know more, watch the anime!

I've always loved it since I first saw it. I really need to buy the box set.

I enjoyed the series by and large...but the ending left rather disappointed. It gave me too much of a bad video game ending vibe for me to be satisfied with it. The characters were interesting, the plot was solid, the action scenes were good...the ending needed work.

In my opinion, the episodes 25 and 26 worked fine for an ending, but the "end of evangelion" movie was a cluster-phoque. because the entire series was a PSA about self-loathing under the guise of a mecha series, the final examination of Shinji's mind and his psychological breakthrough was a fine ending. unfortunately, they kept going and destroyed any closure that ep's 25 and 26 created.

I enjoyed Evangelion and I didn’t have a problem with the ending of the series. I thought it was a good way to end it. I didn’t really care for The End of Evangelion but I can see how people like it over the original 25 and 26 episodes.
I can’t wait to see Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, hopefully it’ll be just as good as the original anime. Too bad we won’t get Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance until probably 2010 or 2011.

supposedly, a live action version of Evangelion is in the works. I'm not going to watch it. I'm satisfied with the original series, and the mistake I made in watching End of Evangelion will not be repeated.

i've seen the Evangelion: 1.0 film, and i'm pretty happy with it. Some people will say they changed too much, while others will say they changed too little, but i think the balance was just right for a re-imagining of the beloved series.
as for the endings of the tv series and the original films, i don't think either ending for Evangelion was superior than the other, both suffered from the same thing really, but at least the End of Evangelion showed more insight into the loose ends of the tv series.
and on a tangent, of my entire dvd collection i am probably most proud of my original platinum boxset of Evangelion (not the slimcase ones). each dvd has its own full-sized dvd case with full artwork and booklet, and each dvd case even has its OWN cardboard slipcover, which all fit snugly into the actual box. it's packaged 3 times! not to mention that all the extras are intact unlike the slimcase edition.
i love, love, love this series. check it out if you haven't! just don't expect a naruto or bleach.

May Naruto burn in hellfire for all eternity. The best ninja in the world wears an orange jumpsuit? it's OK to steal battle choreography from other anime series? I don't think so!

i really love the main series and the ending is perfect. its a very deep ending that honestly, the only way you could understand it is if you suffered from depression in your life. i dont mean being sad, i mean you were just a elvel or 2 away from suicide. i never wish that on anyone but if you have gone through it, you will appriciate the ending for what it is.

I've seen it but I forgot where I left off. =( Actually I think I got lost during the series.

Bought myself the box set and started re-watching the series again. Still amazing.

well, eva did start many character archetypes. the silent blue haired girl, the bitchy girl, the "emo" kid (someone who has depth), and overall advanced many other things in anime that many still copy to this day.

it is a full-blown classic, and not only because of its controversy. it popularized(and in some ways revolutionized) mecha, religious themes, character archetypes, and much more.
