Today I rented Assassin's Creed (and MGS3)and I tried out Assassin's Creed. I lasted until I killed the first guy (the weapon dealer). Something about the game just didn't appeal to me. The combat seemed very repetitive (Which is strange because it was applauded so much by reviewers) and the general getting from place to place was sluggish and uninteresting. I didn't care much for the story. The free-running action was fun, but less interesting than say Prince of Persia's wall running parkour style. I think this game is definantly overrated, and I could not get into it. Thats how I feel about that. Now back to MGS3 ;D

assassin's creed was one of the first games i rented for the 360. it was terrible. the entire game is repetitive and there's absolutely no variety in the combat, or the storyline. beating it felt more like a chore than fun.
not to mention this annoying-as-hell glitch that happens towards the end. if you have more than one controller plugged into the 360 while playing, 2 of your characters will be on screen and you will be able to control both of them. while this may sound like fun, it prevents you from progressing through the level and you start attacking yourself and eventually die. took me a couple days to figure out i had to unplug the other controllers to get rid of the glitch (i had all the rock band stuff plugged in).
complete the game if you want, but you really wouldn't be missing out on much if you chose not to.

Everything was the same. I thought it was fun though, it just has absolutely NO replayability.

the repetitiveness kills this game, which sucks because overall the engine is great. Hopefully the first one is a good starting point and they can correct the mistakes with the sequel. It definitely has some potential to be a great series

I've said it a million times:
The game is basically just a really badass engine, and they took a look at it and said, "damn, this is awesome."
Then they realized they needed a game to go along with it, and copy and pasted the same three tasks over and over again.

lol thats exactly how starfox adventures felt to me. Never played assasins creed, thought about getting it for the ds, but now that i see how bad the original 360 one is I have second opinions.

Assassin's Creed to me is one of those games that I keep denying is mediocre overall. Seriously, AC is amazing in so many ways. The free running alone is pretty much worth the playthrough imo. But the confusing/lacking storyline, the repetitive and tedious tasks, the glitches and so much more drags the game down. Yahtzee's review on Zero Punctuation hits the nail on the head for me.

I wouldn't say that Assassin's Creed is repetitive overall - just the main story arc.
Actually, not even that so much - I just think I'd enjoy it a lot more if you didn't have to trek down from that God-forsaken mountain before each mission.
Past that, though, the game is insanely fun. I for one simply enjoy being able to punish those damned lepers, shoving me around and all that. >.<

I hear the pc version of the game added a few more side mission choices to help make the game less repetitive. I really enjoyed playing this game, course I'm a sucker for games that take place in a portion of history that I am fascinated by. Maybe what made it playable for me was that every time I threw a knife at a guard on a roof he would fall down to the streets, but his legs would get stuck on the roof so there was this long rubber band blob. I thought that was pretty enjoyable seeing

I stuck with the game until after I beat it, but I tend to notice a game's flaws only AFTER I beat it. For example, I really liked Gears of War while it lasted, however, once I beat the main game on Insane difficulty co-op, I realized that it was extremely repetitive (take cover, wait for enemies, pop out real quick to take a short burst at them, or stay in cover and use the WILDLY accurate blindfire).
Anyway, once I beat Assassin's Creed, I realized that there was nothing to do in free roam except run around (made more tolerable because of the free-running aspects of the game) or randomly kill civilians and guards. THEN I realized that that's pretty much all the game is (minus the random killing of civilians, of course). Anyway, although it IS overrated, I look forward to the next one and hope they make many improvements.

I enjoyed it, and not exactly going to jump on the "Hate it" bandwagon simply because of a few things. The one thing that stuck out for me in the game was obviously the free running and parkour aspect of the game, especially when they were not kidding on how you can grab ANY object or ledge that looked like it could be grabbed on in real life.
It had it's downs (the combat was too simple and mildly repetitive for one), some tasks before the assassinations were somewhat weird that left me thinking "wait, wha?", and the AI could've used a few shines to make it polish (So many guards attacking, only one decides to fight mechanic), but after so many FPS's and cookie cutter games it was nice to try something different.
