So I started watching Lucky Star episodes 4-8 and the English dub is actually really great, they kept the dialogue mainly the same and the voices seem to suit the characters well.
But whenever I watch it, I always feel like I could be doing something a lot better with my time. Since all they do is talk about random things : /

i just went on youtube to see how the english voices are. the dub is pretty well done, it's easy on the ears. but being a show where japanese culture and daily life is the focus, this is one that i would have to recommend seeing with subs if one can help it.
Lucky Star is an interesting show. it's not chock full of story or heavy material, but it's much more casual and laid back, while maintaining great character development and great humor. sometimes, i just want to watch a show that isn't a theme park ride, and more like a scenic route. i've been wanting to watch a series that didn't have teary stories, horrible luck, or a universe on the line. lucky star is my staple for that kind of show.
i know i mentioned this before, but azumanga daioh and minami-ke are also shows of the same vein, where it's not full of drama but still has fully developed characters you just enjoy watching.

I say the dubing and original voices are both great. Yeah, the anime seems random and very funny at most moments but you get the point. It shows Japanese culture, and the Otaku life of Konata and her friends. It is funny how they parodise other animes in that show lol..

Gotta say, I'm extremely surprised that the English dub is being so well received by fans. I recognize a lot of the voices from other anime, like Kari Wahlgren and Michelle Ruff, so I was completely used to hearing them, but I totally thought they would get torn apart by the fans of the original voice cast.

i really love lucky star's dub. when a box set is released, ill be buying it and i rarely ever buy anime. the only thing i hate about it is patties voice. its just so bad and the va who does the voice is very talented and does many voices on other series so it just adds insult to injury when you hear a good va doing a bad voice.

it was a region one in a blue box, it came with a dvd of volume 1, two cd's and a creepy schoolgirl uniform t-shirt my brother was not pleased to get as a birthday gift from me. they had 5 others so maybe thats just the regular way of doing it?
to be honest it was a freebie so im not bothered either way, lol.

I love the dub. Konata's voice is spot on in comparison to the Japanese track. I prefer this much over watching it with subs.
The teacher reminds me a lot of Yukari from Azumanga Daioh. :3

I still need to watch the dub. I was going to buy the box set with the uniform t-shirt in it since I saw David wear it on a podcast once. I also show it to my cousin James, who is 2, and he loves it. But if the English dub is good, then I'll get it.

After watching the first episode, I can say that the voices are impressive for a dub.
Unfortunately, I'm one of those people who doesn't like change. And dubs after I have watched and loved the subs is too different for me. I don't think the voices are bad, but I also don't think they match the characters that I've gotten used to from the Japanese version. Tsukasa is the closest match, but still.
