Just a thought i had about console on whether they should be regarded as 'game systems' or computers as a generality. Note: Game system means a machine made solely for the purpose of utilizing interactive media and more specifically video games. Ill wait for a few responses before voicing my own opinion i feel that giving your opinion directly form the start seems to have an adverse effect on the amount of truthful answers you receive

They should be regarded as gaming systems because their primary function is to play videogames, while them going online, or playing music/wathing movies or tv is a side feature.

today i think that the consoles are more computer because while you can use it to just play games, they also have the abilities to go on the internet, stream music, video, pictures. the only real difference between the two i see is one is on a monitor and one is on a TV, and nowadays you can hook up your computer to the TV so they are getting extremely close.

also, some computers are being made just to be used as a game machine, just a side note to this topic

I think the more newer systems (PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii) are more like computers nowadays, because they added things like movies and music. The older systems are in my opinion, should be called game systems.

Consoles are somewhat becoming computers with all the media functionality. I still pretty much use my PS3 for games and the web browser if the comp isnt free at the moment.

Consoles are becoming multimedia machines, offering many cool features. I have to say, I am liking where it's heading.

Consoles are gaming machines, technically you could install Linux on them and use them as a computer, but that would be silly, as you could just buy a computer and do that.
Consoles will never be able to do everything a computer does. Because the moment it can, it's a computer.

I would say that at the current generation of consoles ( PS3, 360, and Wii) they are still gaming systems more so than computers.
Come the next generation though, and i think the line between them will be pretty blurry.
