Now THAT is good anime. Story driven and a bit slow at first, it get really good. This is not something for you fans of action, because this is more story focused than action driven.
It tells the story of an MMORPG, called The World, that is played in virtual reality. One of the players quickly discovers that he can't log out, and we are told, through flashes of the real world, that the real life player has entered a coma, and yet his consciousness stays within the game. It's explained that leaving the terminal is supposed to cancel control over your character.
The other players with him find a connection in him still being in the game and not being able to log out and a mysterious force called "guardian" that talks to Tsukasa and allows him protection.
Simply put, this was an amazing anime.
Oh, and the OST is beautiful.

Huh, when I saw it on Cartoon Network didn't really like it too much. It's a little heavy handed, maybe it's because I was watching the English dub or something, that tends to be a problem.

Oh god, do NOT turn this into a dub bash. The English dub for this show is excellent.

Then I guess i just hated it, you win some, you lose some.
I heard the games for the series were alright though, one of my friends said so, at least.

I liked Legend of the Twilight too. I think it appealed to the side of me that likes fluffy clouds, cute bunnies, and soft fuzzy animals.
Seriously though, it's incredibly cutesy and nothing like //Sign (which I'm ashamed to say that I repeatedly forget to watch). I wasn't sure if I was going to like it at first, but with anime like Gunslinger Girl and Witch Hunter Robin in my collection, I really needed a few more lighthearted titles.

//Sign is for people that don't mind slow things and are able to get into the more complex/emotional side of the Dot Hack series...
It's definitely slower than Legend of the Twilight, buuuut... It was definitely interesting.

Yes, I enjoyed .hack//SIGN when it first aired on CN. It was probably one of the first japanese animes I've seen and it introduced me to the .hack// video game series (which I also enjoyed). The other spin-offs to the series like the legend of the twilight bracelet and ROOT were average at best.

.hack//SIGN is one of my all time fav. anime series. I wasn't so fond of the later series though. Especially Roots, man I tried so hard to like that show, but it never seemed to come to any sort of climax like Sign did. Slow is good, as long as there's some sort of action, but Roots didn't seem to have much of any.

I tried watching a few episodes back when it was on nights on Cartoon Network, but I just couldn't get into it.

Years after watching the English dub on CN (RIP old CN), I'm actually rewatching it with the Japanese dub right now, as good as I remember.
And playing that one 4-part game series(Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, and Quarantine) was awesome since it was just like the show.

The show seems pretty good, I've never seen the first couple of episodes so I had no idea what was going on when I saw it on T.V. as a kid. I'll need to rewatch it, I like story based anime.

Pfft, I was the only one in my group of friends that actually liked this anime. After I saw it on CN, I went and bought the DVDs as they came out. I actually liked the dubbing in this anime, which is rare nowadays.
