1) Any Sonic game that isn't side scrolling
2) RPG Maker (can't really make your own game, it feels broken, and when you make your game, it sucks)
3) Monster Hunter
4) GTA 4
5) Sly Cooper sequals

Metal Gear Solid series Some of my friends just can't seem to comprehend the fact that it's a STEALTH series, and assume that in MGS4 all you do is run around shooting everyone. While you can do it, I wouldn't recommend it on Big Boss hard or above I forgot to mention LittleBigPlanet as well, almost everyone I talk to about it (apart from the peeps in the know) think it's a kiddy platforming game, when it's SO MUCH BLOODY MORE THAN THAT! gah

mirrors edge - its not a first person shooter, you can rarely use a gun if you want but you never have to bar one sniper scene, but still people bitch about "too much puzzle-platforming and not enough killing"
final fantasy: crystal chronicles - its not just a hack and slash in multiplayer and real teamworks involved, but youll still get dicks dumping the chalice for a drop or something and killing you all.
patapon - totally misunderstood purely because noone ever really knows what it is or how it will play, and often dismiss it because of that.
Silent hill - noones really sure about the plot of that series 100%
wind waker - if only for the art style, a younger link resulted in a new approach, but still people who played games about elfs and plumbers in magical worlds called it kiddy...

Yakuza series. It is NOT GTA in japan! Fallout 3. It is NOT a FPS. And it is not at all "Oblivion with Guns". They have the same engine, that's it. It's like Left 4 Dead and Half Life 2. Same engine. Silent Hill. I've heard someone actually complain about how wandering around the town in the first game was boring because you didn't kill that much stuff. Its not about that! Its about the story, the atmosphere, they symbolism, the characters, the exploration, the puzzles! Combat is a side note. Fable 1 and 2. Sure, they aren't exactly what the developer promised. Is that his fault? Sure, maybe. But its also your fault for getting so hyped up for these games. They're still fun if you're into action RPGs, and its still pretty fun to mess around with the SIM parts of the games. MOST SHMUPS. These games are kinda hard, yes. But its a different kind of hard. Its not like how with FPS games, I can jump into most of them and be at least decent. With most shmups, you need to play the levels over and over, until you develop a muscle memory with them. When you're actions are almost second nature. Also, another thing to note (mainly for the "bullet hell" games), is that the game is much easier than it looks if you merely look at your ship instead of what you're shooting. So concentrate more on dodging and you'll be surprised how easy it actually can get. You'll still die a lot though, lol! To me, shmups are just an easy way to look good. Maybe that's just because I find them easier than they look, I don't know. Might be just me
