Play nice, children...Let's discuss "youtubers"

Well, I have no witty comment or creative musing for you today. No, today I thought we could all sit down, and discuss, rationally, calmly... the issue of "Youtubers", without the hectic pace of chat hampering a genuine conversation about this.

I'm not at much as a regular of 4PP as the people who were watching 4PP when they first started casting, I will give you that. I believe I discovered them sometime in May. But, I would like to think that I am somewhat of a regular, as I watch 4PP and these forums everyday. The issue of "Youtubers" has been coming up more and more recently. It's in the chat, the forums, and now even the new 4PP Wiki site.

As a member of 4PP's fan collective, in chat and elsewhere, I try to help people when I can, be courteous to chat members, 4PP and the mods, make friends with others, etc.

So what's your point, Invader Random?

My point, ultimatly, relates to "Youtubers". If anyone is spamming, being rude, constantly annoying, etc...It has now become common place to label them as a "Youtuber". Of course, "Youtuber" relates to someone from Youtube who found highlights of 4PP's most quotable or entertaining playthoughs, and then generally came here to make complete asses of themselves.

Examples of these highlights are ones like Fatal Frame (Brad screaming because of ghosts), GTA 4 "Scootah Brothers" Oblivion "Bearrel Roll" and others.

----------------------------------STORY TIME----------------------------------

If memory serves, you all may be shocked to learn, that I, mild mannered Invader Random, found 4PP through Youtube. One day I was looking up all kinds of Fatal Frame/scary game things, and somehow I ended up on youtube...Looking for clips of those games.

Don't ask me why, maybe I liked trying to scare the crap out of myself, I dunno. More than likely it has to do with the fact I can only WATCH scary games and not play them. You are free to ask me why if you want.

Anyways I came across something called "Scream 4", which is one of 4PP's compilations of Brad/Nick getting freaked out (and rightly so) at scary games. As freaky as those games are, the commentary made in those clips made me laugh so much I decided to see if there was more clips/footage of these entertaining chaps I just found. Then I followed some links and wound up at 4PP's feed.

SO, here is what I'd like to point out, as someone who came here from Youtube:

- I do not spam excessively. I don't repeat LOLZ, owned, PwNED, "PLAY FATAL FRAME pl0x" and other stupid things every 2 seconds.

- I do not try to cause trouble.
- I do not try to be an @sshole and annoy people.
- I am friendly to those who are friendly to me.
- I don't make pointless highlights of every funny thing I see.
- I have had ONE time out ever, and that was a misunderstanding.

I am NOT denying the existance of people that DO come from Youtube that spam, and annoy, and be "douches" to everyone. I am saying there are EXCEPTIONS. We should not generalize annoying people as "youtubers", especially now with 4PP's quickly growing fanbase. We shouldn't give people the wrong idea.

Now I'll leave off with my personal philosophy on this issue.

"One does not have to be a "Youtuber" to be an @sshole."


I welcome you to respond, or debate my position on this. If you don't agree though, please don't just say "You suckz lol stupid youtuber!" After glancing at my post for a few seconds. Just calmly state your own opinion. Thank you for reading.

We don't generalize them, we just call them like we see them, and we generally know that they came from YouTube. Fatlip is a idiot, but we don't generalize him as a YouTuber, let me show you the Wiki Entry.

A YouTuber is a new member who obviously came from YouTube. Now not every person that comes from YouTube is exactly a bad person, they just don't understand what's right and wrong to do in the 4PP Chat. You can easily tell who a YouTuber is because they will yell out whatever highlight is being played and will spam the same thing over and over again, which is not acceptable. Please, don't be a YouTuber.

I think it's pretty un-bias, and true.

I actually qualify as a YouTuber as well, since I stumbled upon Brad and Nick running from the bear in Condemned 2 on YouTube and then came here.

I used to generalize them, but not anymore. Really, those that call them a nuisance and just looking for a scapegoat to pin everything wrong with the chatroom. I agree, not every youtuber is necessarily bad, but the way youtube looks right now, isn't helping their reputation very well.

The majority of viewers are youtubers, but most of them are ok.

I discovered 4PP on youtube through Cuzzy but I watched chat a lot before I ever posted so I knew what not to say and not to ask for anything. thats what others should do

It's like old people complaining about youths commiting vandalism. Its not always them, but there's no doubt that they're doing it as well.

It is wrong to generalise all spammers in chat as people from youtube, as I'm sure many of us have originally come from there. But it's hard not to pin the blame on them. Ask anyone who says, "LULZ BEARRELL ROLL" or "Brad play a scary game and get scared hahahaha" where they found 4PP and they're most likely going to say youtube. It really is tiresome. It's also hard not to call the youtube community spammers. Just look at 90% of the video comments there and there's bound to be dozens of spam messages.

Unfortunately, we never seem to get new people who sign up and ask the rules politely. I've only seen one new person do that, and sadly I haven't seen her/him since. I remember signing up, and managing to talk a little calmly with people. I used to say the occasional 'lol you got pwned', but the more time I spent I became a good regular viewer. What I'm getting at is don't blame people for getting mad at visitors from youtube, but also don't shun new chatters. Give them some time, greet them, and if they still behave like idiots then ignore them. Simple.

I hope this post doesn't sound I'm rambling on. lol

To be perfectly fair back in the "good old days" before we had hundreds of users, there was still people I recall who demanded Brad play Fatal Frame, people who demanded Bearrel Rolls, people who shouted "FOR AMERICA" whenever he played an FPS. As a matter of fact lots of us regulars did it back then, it just wasn't a big deal because it was all fairly new and they hadn't become internet meme's yet.

Don't get me wrong I'm not defending the idiot spammers, I'm just saying it wasn't too different back then. It's just that with so many people in chatrooms now days spewing that crap it's harder to have a real chat conversation.

Honestly though, some decent viewers have come from Youtube (Invader here being one of them). I don't really see the whole mess of whiny noobs anymore, but the "next generation" of fans, if you will. What I mean here is, there've been a whole lot of the "first generation" regulars leaving (and a few coming back), but there seems to me to be more and more upstanding, supportive viewers sifting through the crap.
