Also, what do you think makes you either category?
I think I fit in the hardcore category because I take videogames very seriously. It makes me sad that certain games are getting more selling than they deserve such as the Guitar Hero series to Rock Band. How games are catered to the casual market and thus selling more than games that deserve recognition IE sales of Bionic Commando to the UFC thing. I Guess it also is due to my friends also. My gaming Ideologies differ from their heavily. They believe that Nazi Zombies from COD:W@W is the funnest thing that they ever played, and buy every single map pack just for it. Their limited mindset of games just makes me think of how much other things are out there for the consoles. Either that, or I'm just being an elitist prick.

I'm a total casual gamer. I don't go looking for competition, but I occasionally go around chasing it on Xbox LIVE. I'm casual by choice, by the way. I didn't like the type of personality that came around to me when I got seriously competition, and I still dislike the thought of changing my ways like this. Serious competition only brings me more grief.
I play most of the games I have on Easy too. That's probably just because I don't want to become frustrated or anything though. Why would I want a video game to piss me off when I can just avoid that feeling completely?

I dislike the labels "Hardcore" and "Casual" gamers. I don't label people with those because frankly, no one knows what the fuck they mean to anyone else. Some people think "Hardcore" gamer means someone who plays WoW all bloody day, while someone else thinks it means that they're in a league (an equally stupid concept).
So, if I'm to classify myself under one of these, I'll leave it with a true dichotomy for the definitions; Hardcore would mean someone who spends more than five hours a day playing video games or doing video game related things (such as conventions or reading reviews), and a casual gamer is someone who doesn't. Under that definition, I'm a "hardcore" gamer.
Although, to be honest, I'd much rather just call my self dedicated to the gaming industry.

I don't know where I read this. I believe it was at this forum, or another, but it came from just a random person on the internet, not someone established in the gaming community.
This individual pretty much said that hardcore gamers are willing to going when it's not fun anymore, or when they don't really like what they're doing. For instance, say you're dying over and over at a part. A casual gamer would just stop playing and go on to something different. A hardcore gamer would keep going to advance in the game. Something to that degree.
I believe I'm a hardcore gamer, because I also want to beat the challenge I'm presented with. There are instances where I eventually give up, but most of the time this is when I've gotten so frustrated that I've thrown my controller or screamed a few times. I always play normal mode, and only switch to easy if I really want to beat the game and I'm dying way too much. I almost see it as an insult to play easy mode, as if I have some kind of "gamer pride".
I've also beaten every Silent Hill game just because I'm that great of a fan. I didn't enjoy every game, especially Orgins. But I put myself through it just to have beaten them all. I'll probably end up beating the new game that's going to come out, even though it'll be the PS2 port which will probably blow!

I'd say I'm casual, games don't run my life. I like to explore a game even if that means I have to die 9292928324828920410472 times just to get the full experience out of the darn game. I think I died on purpose a few times while playing crash bandicoot warped. I like to think I had fun playing that game. hm...I don't like playing with people who are competitive, stuck up, self centered and serious all the time. It just takes the fun out of playing the game(s).

Yeah, I don't like competitive, stuck up people either. I also don't complete every game I have, so I do believe I'm casual in that matter.

I hate the word hardcore. I'd rather consider myself a devoted gamer. I'll check out all the biggest releases, open to any genre and I keep up to date with the latest news in the industry. Hardcore is too elitist for my tastes.

i don't consider myself anything. i play games that are fun to me. i find guitar hero and rockband fun, especially with friends. i also love the metroid series and love castlevania (ds ones) and viewtiful joe 1 and 2.
i like rpg's, shooters, arcade fighters, shumps (however its spelled).
i play what i like and don't play what i don't like and thats all anyone should care about. lables are meaningless as long as you enjoy what you play.

I don't consider myself H4RDC0R3, but I am very competitive in Metal Gear Online, and dedicated to Metal Gear. Aside from that, I love games with good story, and I actually kinda hate it when games don't have long cut scenes.... Yeah, but I like to have everything explained. It all depends on Graphics, Gameplay, and Story, how much I will like/play/be competitive on/a game.
Graphics matter, because you won't see me playing Metal Gear Solid: Text anytime soon.
