Just about 10 minutes ago i was watching TV on how one Navy Seal over in iraq sacrificed his own life in order to save his teammates in a firefight.
His name was John, and he was positioned on top of a roof with 4 other snipers in order to evaluate and terminate a specific target. While the firefight ensued, a grenade was thrown up and onto the roof next to john by the enemy. By this time one of the officers said that john had no more than 2 seconds to react. Therefore, John sacrificed his own life by smothering the grenade with his body in order to save his teammates.
What is really sad about this is that John was supposed to go back home 4 days after this event happened. His sister and next officer in command were on Fox news talking about it, and i just started crying man. Just goes to show you cant take life for granted, it can go away in the blink of an eye.
Navy Seals, you do NOT FUCK with navy seals

You'd be dead if that happened to you, Stranger. :0
This reminds me of a story from the battle of Iwo Jima that I watched on History a few years back. Some dude name Hank's friend saw a grenade land right next to Hank, and yelled, "Watch out, Hank!" and smothered the grenade. Later Hank got one of his legs practically shot off, and, being an extremely brave medic, he crawled over to some guy who was yelling "Medic!" and aided him. That guy was badass.
As for the story of this topic, I wish we had more backstory on the people he saved.

shortbus' story reminds me of a story I heard from WWI two guys were in a trench, and a grenade flew in, and one of the guys jumped onto the grenade, smothering it, but it didn't go off. Another grenade flew in, and the same guy jumped on it, smothering it, but it was also a dud. Then, a third grenade flew in, and the guy who had been risking his life pushed his friend onto the grenade, jokingly saying, "Your turn!"
Then the grenade went off.

No offense here, but couldn't he just have kicked it away?
Nontheless, he died in an honorable fashion.

It is a sad story but the guy was one brave motherf***er to sacrifice his life for those around him. I hope that his family and friends aren't too heart broken over this because he died saving people.

Two seconds isn't gonna do much considering first you have to decide a safer place to kick it, then actually kicking it there in time. If you could do all that in two seconds plus all that pressure, then yeah, that might be a plausible option.

it says he was with snipers on a rooftop, which means the snipers/spotters would be fanned out in a tight space, kincking it anywhere would kill him plus someone else

i know in WWII there was a guy handing out grenades from a big bag, when someone dropped a grenade, he smothered the dropped grenade and the bag of grenades, he got a medal of some kind ( i dont know which ) for doing it

Aww... That is really sad... I know I am not into military stuff and don't know the explosion time of a real grenade or blast radius. But, that is really brave..
Poor guy, My sympathies and best wish of luck to his family..
