I've been scanning the comments on youtube regarding human existance and I can't believe some of the close minded egotistical people out there. I do believe one day we will no longer exist that there will be something else that will reign and take over the world. Maybe the apes, chimpanzees will take over, or perhaps our dogs, cats or even bears will take over become rabid or even breed into something much bigger. They have hybrid bears out there but it's kinda rare. Who knows?
What do you guys think? And please explain yourselves. Don't just say "yeah we'll live forever, the end", because that won't fly with me and this is a debate, not a short six worded answer.

Well as far as we know, we're the dominant race. As humans, we do hold the better weapon, which puts aside the chance that any other species could dominate us. Aside from all the end-of-the-world factors i.e. overpopulation, global warming, etc., there's always a chance of survival and upholding our status as dominant. Humans, like any other species, is still evolving, so if by chance our species evolves into a somewhat more advanced species, which is more adaptable to the environment, we stand a good chance of survival. This is all hypothetical, but who knows? Maybe that's how it'll be. Maybe we'll one day be like those intellectual Vulcans. Fuck yeah!

I'm not entirely sure this is debatable, as it's all really a lot of speculation. For that, I'm moving this to General Discussion, but please explain your answers any way.
I think that humanity, as a species, will outlive even the planet Earth. It is our constant primal fear of extinction that drives us to do things, and eventually, it'll drive us to develop space travel at faster-than-light speeds. We're even working on it now, to start colonizing far-off planets as it is. We'll also have to work out terraformation, but that's a problem we have time for.
Now, of course, that's assuming that humanity's other primal instinct of competition and our ego don't destroy us first. Nuclear war, something even more terrible, who knows? It's a possibility that we'll destroy ourselves.
Humanity as a whole, though, is like the Roman Empire; There are no predators or outsiders that can destroy us. We can only destroy ourselves. Well, except those tribes in Africa, but even they are far better off than the animals they hunt.
I doubt that we'll make it past the end of the universe, though. Hell, we may not even make it past our first contact with another species outside of Earth.

Dave we'd need about 3 million years to evolve (It took about 3 million years for our brain to evolve through apes, erectus, neanderthal, and all the intermediates for our brain to get to where it is now; 4B if you count all of evolution) into anything special, and I personally don't think we'll last that long. In the United states, we have a lot of nukes, and I quote,
"The U.S. nuclear arsenal today includes 5,400 warheads loaded on intercontinental ballistic missiles at land and sea; an additional 1,750 nuclear bombs and cruise missiles ready to be launched from B-2 and B-52 bombers; a further 1,670 nuclear weapons classified as “tactical.” And just in case, an additional 10,000 or so nuclear warheads held in bunkers around the United States as a “hedge” against future surprises."
Not to mention Russia's nukes. I think they have a lot less than America, but still in the hundreds, I believe. And China has some too.
And that was published in Newsweek in 2001, I don't know how the arsenal has changed in 8 years, but I'm pretty sure we still have enough to destroy the world's inhabitants (Earth would still be here, just a vacant ball, we'd be gone. It always tickles me when people say, "save the earth!", what they mean to say is, "save the climate and supplies so we can continue surviving!", Earth is just fine. It isn't going anywhere). It would be interesting to know if life would start over after the ash had settled and the climate had returned to normal.
We'll never reach our full potential until we're all peaceful, and that probably won't happen. I wish people would just drop the other end of the rope (people supporting war, economy, fossil fuels, and finance) and let us call upon a utopian society. I agree though, that's completely unrealistic.

Now, now. I hold that fifty to a hundred years from now, the Earth will be peaceful, and probably have a central government across the planet. Of course, people will still hate people for little or no reason, but there won't be massive wars over it. We'd be a functioning society as a planet, not as a country or state. When that happens, and only when that happens will we truly be able to advance as a race.

Eventually, which is a very long time, the sun will die along with all Earth and all proximate life forms.

Just as long as there is no 1984 going on, it's all good.

if humans can advance in space travel to the point of making space ships the size of small islands then its possible the human race will live on, even if earth is destroyed. humans will become a species of space, eventually adapting to space possibly to what ever planet they may come across.
really, the human race will end up dying out but from humans will evolve a new being, more adapt in their evionment.
