So, I just discovered this book from a recommendation from my English teacher, started reading it this morning at about 6 AM, and hot damn, I love this book.
I wouldn't say it's on par with something like H.G. Wells in terms of story telling, and the lack of character descriptions bugs me a bit, but that's probably because I've been spoiled by fantasy books too long.
I absolutely love this book. What are y'all's thoughts on it?

Lol oh dear. I read that in my second year of highschool. I didn't care too much for it seeing as I'm not a big scifi lover. But nonetheless, I thought it was cute.

I thought it was a fantastic book.
I've written several book reports on it over the years, rereading it several times. Orson Scott Card has created a wonderful series of books.
The Enderverse is big, Dylan. Very big.

I loved that book when I read it in the day. The setting was so nicely done and the storytelling was great. I remember not liking the sequels at all though, didn't have the same effect as the first book.
Good find.

I read it in the eighth grade, never really got into it though.
I was at the Artemis Fowl stage of my literary life. ;D

Hear hear, Travis.
All eight canonical books, as well as the more recent books that came out, are some of the best sci fi you'll get.

Think the description of characters is low? I guess he does leave a lot to the imagination and your own ideas in the first book. Just read the... oh lets see... 11 or so short stories based in the Enderverse then the8 other books based on Ender, his brother and Bean. I wouldn't hesitate in saying this is the best series i have ever read. I hope you enjoy the sequels unlike most people i know. It seems as if most people only like ender as a kid, once he is in his fifties people are like. BORING! I disagree, only gets more interesting. When I say character descriptions, I mean that Card just dumps you into their life, without knowing anything regarding their lives up until that point. You get a vague idea, but nothing too specific. Although, after finishing the book, I honestly don't care about it as much; The character developments are superb, and even while we're not in Ender's mind the whole time, you still get a feel for his character to a T, which is something that I find absolutely amazing. I'm sure I'll love the rest of the books as much as I did this one. I'm gonna start on Speaker for the Dead later today.

Yeah, the character description and development is vague, yet you do really get to know Ender more than a lot of other fictional characters. It's an interesting read.

I read the book in I think 7th grade. I remember liking it, but I don't think I enjoyed it as much as I probably would if I re-read it, since I was a bit young to understand the political aspect of it. But Card most likely had an influence on my love for Ray Bradbury.

I read the book, but I never could figure out why I liked it so much. Maybe because of the way that the book is written and the variety and realism of the characters. The whole thing about the spaceship strategy game made me imagine Starcraft.

Yep, I read this recently, couldn't really get it at first where it was going, but that's what got me hooked on it. And the fact children were all involved. Hopefully those sequels wont disappoint...
