I'll admit, I've just worked myself out of a phase where I was not reading *any* books at all. Besides textbooks and photoshop tutorials. But I was out driving and I realized how close the local library was, so now I'm on a huge book reading binge.
List!
The first Samurai Girl book I picked up on a whim, and just kinda ate it in one sitting. It's not that entertaining, but it's an interesting quick read if you want something light and fluffy you don't have to think about too much. Yay for tripe! I'm waiting on the second book to pop up at my library, I think someone's had it out for like, two weeks now.
Also, appearantly they made a short TV series out of this, starring Jamie Cheung? Same Jamie Cheung from the Dragonball movie and (I think) Real World show fame? I dunno. I haven't seen it.
Darkly Dreaming Dexter, which is very good. Travis got me watching the television adaptation ("Dexter", obviously), which is suprisingly much better than the book. But that doesn't mean the book isn't worth passing up. Some of the lines in the show have been picked up straight from the book, which is interesting to go back and rewatch the first season to see. The pacing is a little odd and the ending feels rushed, but it's a good read if you're looking for something dark or morbid.
The Adoration of Jenna Fox was another book I picked up on a complete whim, and I'm very glad I did. It's about a girl who wakes up from a year long coma and has odd knowledge about things she didn't know before, but also has amnesia. Anyone remotely interested in future technology, medicine, reality and existentialism will enjoy this. I'm going to go look for more books by this author, Mary Pearson. She's got a great mind.
The Summoning which I've finished a while back, also good. It kind of runs the line between young adult tripe books, but it has this neat other side to it. Realistic science fiction, a girl is diagnosed with schizophrenia, but she starts to doubt her diagnosis after being sent to a group home. It's supposed to be a trilogy, I'm actually keeping my eye out for the next book in the series. It's supposed to be out in May, I think.
I have Eats, Shoots and Leaves lying somewhere around my bed that I read on occasion as it amuses me greatly. I also have When My Name was Keoko, which is a story about a Korean girl and her brother living in Korea when Japan occupied it in World War II. Haven't started it yet.
I'm gonna need to make another run to the library soon and pick up more books. I used to read really hardcore things when I was in proper school, like the Illiad, or Dostoevskyor Shakespeare, but I've been out of touch with reading for so long that even short stories like Sherlock Holmes's kinda leave me mentally exhausted and I have to re-read pages sometimes.
So, yup. What've you been reading?
