With more and more economic troubles in the game industry, and now entire companies starting to go under (Midway), is this the end of large conglomerates controlling the gaming industry, and more upstart companies getting a better reach to the publc?
(i.e. That Game Company with Flower and Flow, all the XBLA and some of the smaller PSN titles)

Many games these days are mostly sequels (i.e. FEAR 2, Gears of War 2, God of War 3) and I'm wondering why game developers cling to their well known titles instead of creating new, fresh video game titles. Do you guys think it's because developers are afraid that their new ideas won't sell as well as their well known titles now?

Do you consider certain types of free downloadable content (recently seen in the Left 4 Dead not-so-new versus campaigns for Dead Air and Death Toll) to be more like patches than actual DLC for games; as they don't seem to be add-ons like new areas in Fallout or costumes in LittleBigPlanet but just fixing what should probably have been in the game from the release date?
